The privacy boundary is the price boundary
Everything that stays on your devices is in the one-time tier. Everything that reaches outside your iCloud is in Plus. If you never subscribe, nothing you log in Kindred ever leaves Apple’s servers and your own. Read the privacy policy for the details.
A birthday is coming up. Want to send a card?
Kindred already knows the date and the address. Pick a card, write a few lines, and a real person writes your note by hand and mails it. Design your own front by describing a scene, or use a photo. The card is logged as an interaction and the cadence resets, like any other touch.
Cards are a physical product, paid per card with Apple Pay, outside any plan. Your recipient’s address goes to the printer once and is not stored by Kindred.

Questions about pricing
Why is Kindred a one-time purchase?
Because there is nothing to run. Your data lives in your own iCloud, so the app costs us nothing per user once it is built. You pay once for the software on every Apple device you own, and Family Sharing covers your family.
Then why does Plus renew?
Every Plus feature talks to a service outside your iCloud: Google, Microsoft, or the AI model you bring. Those need ongoing work as the providers change. A subscription is the honest way to pay for them, and Plus includes everything in Kindred while it is active.
What does the AI do in each plan?
Kindred uses Apple Intelligence on your device: a catch-up brief before you reach out, a title and summary for each logged note, and names and dates spotted in what you type. None of it leaves your device. Plus lets you bring your own model, from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or one running locally, for the jobs that want more context and a stronger writer: drafting a follow-up from your notes and a fuller brief before a meeting.
How does bringing my own model work?
You paste an API key in Settings, or point Kindred at a local model. The key is stored in your Keychain, and Kindred calls the provider directly from your device with only the notes a task needs. Nothing goes through a Kindred server, and you pay the provider at its own rates.
I already own Kindred. Do I pay for Plus twice?
No. Owners of the one-time unlock see a lower yearly price for Plus inside the app, so the on-device features are never bought twice.
What happens to my data if I cancel Plus?
Nothing. Everything Kindred stores is in your iCloud and stays there. You fall back to Free, or to Kindred if you bought the unlock, and the connected-service features simply stop.
Does the free tier expire?
No. Free is free forever, for up to 25 people. There is no trial clock and no card on file.
Where do I buy it?
Inside the app, through the App Store on iPhone, iPad, or Mac. One purchase on your Apple Account applies on every device. Restore purchases in Settings if a device does not pick it up.
